Abib Update Sunday February 4, 2018 Lots to be excited about in Israel. The very hot dry weather has arrived for at least a week. That will push barley growth exponentially. There are some great pictures on a Y-Net News presentation with the link here. https://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-5082524,00.html In this you can see some nice barley areas that have already been subjected to the four-legged lawn machines. Even at that there are some stalks that are in the boot in the south in some locations. What is of most interest to me is the picture from the Hula Valley. It is a great learning picture tool as to time of year. You will see thousands of “Common Cranes” wintering there. They do so every year. Some folks mistake them for the “White Storks” which are one of the biblical signs of the year turning from Winter to Summer in the Land. If you look closely at the birds they all have short beaks compared to the white storks which have very long beaks. To see the difference between the two species, go to the Israel Bird Portal at http://www.birds.org.il/en/index.aspx Type the names into the search spot and you will see some very distinct differences, even though they have some of the same characteristics. Calling a crane, a stork, is like calling a robin a blue jay. They are both about the same size but very different in how and when they address migration. Hope this assists you in your understanding of things abib and the timing of such.
